There were more than 2 million marriages in the year 2019 alone, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). If you're about to become one of the couples who will get married this year, it's time to start prepping your wedding-day look.
Along with minimizing your pores, making sure that your hair is just so, and shaping your eyebrows, getting your teeth in their top shape is an easy way to create a picture-worthy look.
What can you do to prepare your teeth for your big day? Take a look at the simple steps that will help you to get the sparkling smile that you've been dreaming of.
Whiten Ahead of Time
Whitening your teeth is an easy way to dress up your smile, making it picture perfect. If you want to maximize the whitening power of this cosmetic treatment, a professional whitening offers a brighter look in less time. Even though at-home whitening strips, mouthwash, and toothpaste can give you a sparkling smile as well, you may need to start using them months before your wedding date - which may not be possible with your timeline.
However, if you choose a professional whitening procedure at a dentist's office, you can schedule your appointment a few weeks before your wedding and still get maximum results.
Keep in mind, however, that while you can whiten at the dentist's office closer to your wedding date, you may want to make sure that there's a week or more in between the appointment and your nuptials. Some dental patients experience sensitivity after whitening. Instead of having discomfort on one of the most magical days of your life, whiten your teeth at least a week before the wedding.
Visit the Dentist
Even if you don't need or want a professional-level whitening, visiting the dentist prior to your wedding day can help to get your teeth in top shape. Very few things can ruin your wedding quicker than an infected tooth, painful cavity, or other major oral issue.
Along with a deep cleaning (which will add a special sparkle), a dental checkup can ensure that your big day goes smoothly, without a dental dilemma.
Schedule your dental visit at least a week before your wedding date. If you have sensitive teeth, have gum disease, or need to have a cavity filled, your mouth may need time to heal after the dental visit.
Watch What You Eat
This pre-wedding day tip has nothing to do with fitting into your dress or making sure that your tuxedo isn't overly snug. Instead of watching what the calorie count is, look out for foods and beverages that can stain your teeth.
Deeply pigmented foods, such as cranberries and blueberries, can cause stains that will show up in your wedding day photos. Likewise, beverages such as red wine and coffee can result in the same staining issue.
Along with avoiding these types of foods and beverages in the weeks prior to your wedding (especially if you've paid to have your teeth professionally whitened), continue the ban on staining foods through the reception. You don't want to ruin your wedding photos with a last-minute cup of coffee or glass of red wine.
Pack Dental Care Items
On your wedding day, you'll need to make sure that your teeth stay pearly white and food-free. Pack a travel toothbrush, floss, and toothpaste along with your makeup, a hairbrush, a shave kit, and any other grooming products you might need.
